The Vision…

In the middle of a severe famine and as the Syrians besieged Samaria, four leprous men at the gate of the city asked, “why are we sitting here until we die?” Both entering the city and remaining where they presently were seemed like certain death. So, they decided to surrender to their enemies with the hopes their lives would be spared.

Yet as the men entered the outskirts of the Syrian camp something they had never expected happened. The Scriptures declare, “to their surprise no one was there. For the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of the chariots and the noise of horses-the noise of a great army;” (See II Kings 7:3-7) Their enemies fled fearing what sounded to them like a great army.

The Dream…

As soon as I fell asleep, I heard a siren behind me. When I turned to see what was happening, I saw a sheriff’s car racing to the scene of an accident. Before arriving, the officer stopped, got out of his car, and put something that looked like a ‘sail’ up over the hood of his car. I remember thinking in the dream how that looked very different.

Getting back into his car, the officer proceeded quickly arriving at the scene. As I watched what was taking place, I realized I was wearing the same clothes I wore when I fell asleep. There was no time to change and no time to waste.

In the dream I started running towards the accident that had occurred just up and on the right side of the road. Suddenly I arrived at the scene.

Upon arriving I noticed that a person had died. Someone was trying to help, but it was obvious death had occurred. Feeling a sense of helplessness after surmising the situation, I simply bowed my head, folded my hands, and began to pray. It was apparent nothing I could do could change anything.

The Challenge…

Two days after the dream Shirley and I attended a conference in Gettysburg, PA where Brother Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj was one of the speakers.

God had already used Brother Sadhu four years earlier when he spoke at our church in Moravian Falls. During one of the sessions a clear challenge came for us to lead a prayer watch for the president. Soon, the Presidential Prayer Watch was formed and continued throughout his term.

On the first night of the conference in Gettysburg an urgent and clear challenge again was given to me to form a prayer watch. The prayer strategy was to be more offensive than defensive and had to come from above. We needed a plan of intercession different than what we had known.

Gettysburg is known as the turning point of the Civil War. During one crucial battle the Union soldiers were commanded to hold their position at all hazards. To not do so would bring about their defeat.

After a few skirmishes, those holding the flank ran out of ammunition. The Union commander knew they could not withstand another charge from the Confederate soldiers below. The situation looked hopeless when suddenly he ordered a bayonet charge downhill. Obeying the order, the soldiers frantically ran downhill into the face of the loaded rifles of the opposing soldiers. To their surprise, the Confederates began to retreat, and victory was secured. Their last-minute desperate risk-all charge could possibly have been the turning point of the entire Civil War.

The Promise…

Rick Joyner in his book ‘The Second American Revolution/Civil War’, points out how the great champions of the faith throughout the ages all had one thing in common. “They did not look at how small and inadequate they were, (and I might add, how hopeless and impossible things appeared), “but at how big their God was”.

As a result of the urgent challenge and confirmation to again form a prayer watch to charge into what in many ways now appears hopeless, America’s Prayer Watch has begun. Yet with the commission came the assurance that our efforts, although difficult, would be successful.

Awaking from sleep and in spite of what he saw currently going on around him, Jeremiah was assured by this promise: “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “They shall again use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I bring back their captivity: ‘The Lord bless you, O home of justice, and mountain of holiness!’…’And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down, to destroy, and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the Lord.’ (See Jeremiah 31:23-28)

America and in truth the nations of the world are facing challenges never seen before. Deception is covering the earth and deep darkness the people. A darkness maybe never seen in all of history. Yet the promise remains of the glory of the Lord being seen upon His people and eventually covering the earth just as the waters cover the sea.

The final chapter of America, although could very well be being written at this moment, has not been finalized yet. The church at this juncture in history will have something to say about how, when and if the story ends.

Getting involved…

In the series ‘The Lord of the Rings’, Gandalf the Grey said something to Frodo (a word of wisdom), you and I should hear.

Observing and living through the numerous hardships that came with his possessing the ring, Frodo said, “I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened”. Then Gandalf wisely replied, “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us”

You and I did not choose the events that are now unfolding that threaten every nation on earth. However, we were chosen to live in these times. God has been preparing each of us for this specific hour in history. Many feel a lot like Frodo, yet it was the wisdom Gandalf provided that gave Frodo the resolve to stay the course and fulfill what he had been chosen to do.

To be involved, first, seek the Lord as to which day of the week or how to participate in a corporate fast. Some will fast from 6 AM to 6 PM one or more days while others will begin at 6 AM and fast for 24 hours, or more. How you fast, is completely up to you, but join with us in some way. Spend a few minutes praying around 6 AM, noon and then again at 6 PM. Remember Jesus taught that some things can not be moved, “except by prayer and fasting” (see Matt 17:14-21).

Second, during your day to fast or another, spend time in prayer for this or your nation, either alone or preferably with a group. Jesus said when, “two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven” (Matt 18:19).

Third, use the strategies as a launching pad to your own confession and intercession before the Lord being confident in the promise that “the effective fervent prayer of the righteous avails much” (James 5:16).

Fourth, organize a prayer team to meet on some regular basis to pray together using the authority you have been given as believers. Before making the promise of Matt 18:19 Jesus declared earlier, “whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, (has already been bound), and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven, (has already been loosed) (Matt 18:18).

Fifth, set aside some time during your churches worship times to focus on one or more of the specific points or another emphasis the Holy Spirit is showing you.

Seventh, pray as if your life and the life of your nation depended on it. Because it does. Desperate, risk-all type intercession is what is required from this point on.

Eighth, pray in the power and unction of the Holy Spirit and in the authority of Word of God. Jesus promised, “Behold I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).
